This is how things are shaping up after the first six events of the season. After another long break over the Easter holidays, we had the West Pearl River Shootout for event # 6. Jimmy Dorris had a solid 3rd place finish on the West Pearl River Shoot Out adding valuable points to his AOY lead. Beaux Lasiter had another win in event number 6 and has closed the gap between him and first place AOY angler Jimmy Dorris. Chris Basey is still holding on strong in 3rd place in the AOY Race posting a solid 4th place finish on the West. We also had an angler make a significant jump up the AOY standings. Joe Picone catapulted himself from 11th place up to 5th place after he posted a strong finish on the West. Also, Beaux Lasiter has posted yet another win and is now triple qualified for the Bass Assassins Classic. He along with other anglers who are currently double qualified for the Classic have opened up 4 other spots down the line in the AOY Race for anglers to fall into Classic contention. At this point in the season the top 14 places in the AOY points race has opened up for Classic contention along with event winners from this season so far. That Classic cut off line can shift either way if anglers win or fall out of AOY contention as the season progresses. Up ahead we have Bayou Liberty's Battle on the Bayou where the top 3 anglers in the AOY race are always a threat when it comes to putting game changing bass on the weigh scales. The last time we were here the Bass Assassins set an attendance record at 43 anglers. This tournament should also have a great turn out and it should be another exciting event.
It's been almost a month since our last tournament. We were able to have the first Crawfords Landing tournament of the year. The river has been over flood stage for what seems like an eternity. This weekend it dropped back below 14 feet at Pearl River. The river was still rolling fast, muddy as ever, and had lots of day wrecker floating down it. Despite all of these rough conditions 12 brave ( or crazy ) anglers, and two Little Tanglers showed up to fish today. The fishing was tough, but we still had a very close race for the top three places at the scales. Only seven anglers were able to put fish on the scales. At the top of those anglers was Beau Lassiter. Beau had a 7 lbs. 6 oz. limit to claim the first place honors. Nick Lemmon was able to right there with a 7 lbs. 5 oz. limit to claim second place. Following close in third was Jimmy Dorris with a limit weighing 7 lbs. 1 oz. The big fish award went to Joe Picone who had a 2 lbs. 14 oz. The winner in the Little Tanglers division was Mehgan Hillman with 2 fish weighing 2 lbs. 8 oz. The next tournament is set for May 18th on Bayou Liberty. If you have any questions you can call Chris Basey at 985-707-7857, or email bassassassinsla@gmail.com This is how things are shaping up after the first five events of the season. Jimmy Dorris had a solid 2nd place finish on the East Pearl River Rumble giving him a commanding lead. Beaux Lasiter had another high finish and jumped over Chris Basey for second place. (Z2) Zack Zimmerman catapulted his self into contention with another solid finish. He is nipping at the heels of 3rd place Chris Basey with only a 10 point deficit that separates them. Fellow RP3 Staffer Jared Norris made the biggest move of all the anglers in event #5. Jared moved up the AOY leaderboard by posting a 5th place finish, that jumped him into 5th place overall in the AOY standings. Richard Bennett took event #5 on the East Pearl River Rumble and is Classic bound. For those of you who were left just outside the bubble, we still have plenty of fishing left to do this season before having to hit the panic button. I expect to see a lot of shift changes towards the latter half of the Bass Assassins season. Later we will be looking towards the West Pearl River Shoot-out, but only before another long break between events. This will give anglers plenty of time to do their research and come up with game plans for the event. It should be another slug fest for event #6. |
